The Why Municipal Youth Participation? European Training Seminar 2026 is an international professional development opportunity designed for individuals working to strengthen youth involvement in local and regional decision-making. Organized by the Council of Europe Youth Department within the Youth Revitalising Democracy project and the Democracy Reloading Partnership of Erasmus+ national agencies, the seminar will host 50 participants at the European Youth Centre Budapest in Hungary from 16 to 21 November 2026.
The program focuses on exploring practical approaches to municipal youth participation and implementing the newly revised European Charter on the Participation of Young People in Local and Regional Life. Attendees will examine Council of Europe standards, learn about Democracy Reloading tools, share peer practices, and observe local participation examples in Budapest.
Eligibility
The training is intended for various local and regional stakeholders, including:
- Municipal youth policy officers and local partners
- Locally elected political representatives
- Members of local youth councils and youth civil society organizations
- Youth leaders, youth policy makers, and other relevant practitioners
General applicant requirements include:
- Residing and working in a Council of Europe member state, with possible justified exceptions
- Ability to communicate independently in English
- Active engagement in youth participation policy or practice at the local or regional level
- Priority is given to participants from Democracy Reloading Partnership countries, though others may apply
