Overview
The World Health Organization (WHO) is recruiting a Research Officer (P2) for a 12-month temporary appointment based in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The role supports the Expanded Special Project for Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (ESPEN), focusing on operational research, surveillance, GIS activities, and laboratory protocols for diseases like lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, soil-transmitted helminthiasis, schistosomiasis, and trachoma.
Eligibility
Candidates must meet specific academic, professional, and language requirements:
- Education: A first university degree in Computer Sciences, Information System Engineering, Geographical Information System (GIS), Public Health, Parasitology, or Medical Entomology.
- Experience: At least two years of national and international experience in applied molecular biology, surveillance tool research and development for priority NTDs in Africa, GIS data transformation, and spatial modelling of onchocerciasis foci.
- Languages: Expert knowledge of French is essential; intermediate knowledge of English is desirable.
Benefits
The position is classified at the P2 grade level and includes the following compensation and allowances:
- Starting annual base salary of USD 56,046.
- A variable post adjustment, currently stated as USD 1,789 per month for the duty station.
- 30 days of annual leave.
- Allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
