WHO AFRO/TDR Impact Grants 2026–2027: Up to US$15,000 for Implementation Research in Africa
The World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa and TDR invite applications for the 2026–2027 Joint WHO AFRO/TDR Impact Grants to support public health-oriented implementation research. Selected projects will receive up to US$15,000 to address regional priorities within the WHO African Region.

Overview
The Joint WHO AFRO/TDR Impact Grants for Implementation Research for Regional Priorities provide funding of up to US$15,000 per selected project. The initiative aims to support actionable implementation research addressing practical barriers that affect the delivery, scale-up, sustainability, and impact of existing health interventions in the WHO African Region, with a particular focus on infectious diseases of poverty.
Proposals should align with three main research priorities:
- Person-centred service delivery across the life course, including integrated communicable disease services, referral systems, and quality improvement.
- Health-systems strengthening, innovation, and digital transformation, addressing supply chains, diagnostics, quality of care, digital health, and emergency preparedness.
- Environmental health, climate change, One Health, and emerging threats, focusing on climate-sensitive diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and zoonotic infections.

- Support for projects with a maximum study duration of 12 months, required to be completed by the end of 2027.

Eligibility
- The principal investigator and most members of the research team must be based at an institution in a WHO African Region country or territory, such as a ministry of health, national disease programme, academic institution, university, research institute, or eligible nongovernmental organization.
- Applicants must demonstrate relevant experience in operational or implementation research and the ability to conduct research independently.
- Proposed studies must be conducted within the WHO African Region.
- Applications and principal investigator information must be submitted in English, French, or Portuguese.
How to Apply
Applicants must prepare and submit their applications through the online platform using the following steps:
- Download the official application form in your preferred language (English, French, or Portuguese).
- Complete the required research proposal form and prepare a project budget in US dollars.
- Obtain a one-page curriculum vitae for the principal investigator, required ethical approval documentation, a signed programme acknowledgement letter, and health-centre authorization where applicable.
- Combine all required documents into a single PDF file following the naming format specified in the guidelines (e.g., using the applicant's name followed by “SGS2026.pdf”).
- Access the official eTDR platform to upload the final PDF and submit the application formally.
