WCSJ 2027 Travel Fellowship: Fully Funded Support for Science Journalists to Attend the World Conference of Science Journalists in London
Applications are open for the WCSJ 2027 Travel Fellowship, offering fully funded support for science journalists, media professionals, students, and eligible researchers or educators to attend the World Conference of Science Journalists in London.

Overview
The WCSJ 2027 Travel Fellowship provides international funding for science journalists, media professionals, journalism students, and qualified researchers or educators to attend the World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ 2027). The event takes place in London, United Kingdom, from 6–9 September 2027 under the theme "Strengthening science journalism through global networks," with fellows required to be available from 6–10 September 2027. Hosted by the Association of British Science Writers and the World Federation of Science Journalists, the programme is designed for individuals who would otherwise struggle to attend due to limited financial support from employers, institutions, or countries.
Benefits
Successful fellows receive a comprehensive financial support package organized by the event coordinators, which typically covers:
- International or domestic travel to and from London
- UK Standard Visitor visa application costs where required
- Limited local transport connected directly to official conference activities
- Up to six nights of accommodation booked by the organizers
- Full conference registration
- Refreshments and lunches during the official conference programme
Note that the fellowship does not provide a per diem, travel insurance, health expenses, passport costs, unauthorized extra hotel nights, or unrelated local transport.
Eligibility
The opportunity is open internationally without fixed geographic quotas, though applicants from low-income and lower-middle-income countries receive additional consideration. Eligible participants include:
- Science Journalists and Media Professionals: Staff, freelance, print, broadcast, online, and multimedia journalists reporting on science, health, climate, technology, engineering, environment, and related topics (science journalism does not need to be a full-time beat).
- Students: Students of legal age in journalism, science communication, media studies, or related disciplines who can travel independently.
- Researchers and Educators: Academics in relevant fields who possess a verifiable, active professional track record in journalism.
Applicants must be able to complete the application in English, hold a valid passport through at least September 2027, and provide three strong professional work examples from the past two years alongside a supporting letter.
How to Apply
Candidates must submit their applications through the official online application form. The submission requires a maximum two-page CV, a professional biography, three work examples (with English translations if published in another language), professional-development question responses, a knowledge-sharing plan, and a financial needs statement.
Deadline
Applications must be submitted by 23 October 2026 at 23:59 BST.
