Overview
The Wallace Fellowship is a fully funded residential research program hosted by I Tatti, the Harvard Center for Italian Renaissance Studies in Florence, Italy. The program supports scholars investigating the historiography and impact of the Italian Renaissance in the Modern Era. Successful applicants spend four to six months in Florence pursuing focused projects while engaging with the wider academic community.
Benefits
- A monthly stipend of USD 5,200.
- A one-time relocation supplement of up to USD 1,800.
- Rent-free accommodation subject to availability, or a housing subsidy if suitable lodging cannot be provided.
- Seven-day-a-week access to the Biblioteca Berenson and other scholarly resources at the Harvard Center.
- Weekday lunches with other appointees from Monday through Friday.
Eligibility
- Must hold a PhD in hand at the time of application and upload a certificate scan.
- Cannot be working on a second PhD concurrently.
- Must be conversant in English with familiarity with Italian.
- Priority is given to early and mid-career scholars who can carry out the majority of their research in Florence.
- Open to scholars of all nationalities, with special consideration given to candidates lacking regular access to research materials and facilities in Italy.
- Applicants may not hold the fellowship concurrently with other awards or undertake other obligations such as teaching positions during the term.
