UNU–University of Bonn Joint MSc 2027: Applications Open with Fully Funded DAAD EPOS Scholarships
Applications are open for the 2027 intake of the Joint Master of Science in Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security, a two-year postgraduate programme offered in Bonn, Germany.

Overview
The Joint Master of Science in Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security is an international postgraduate programme jointly offered by the United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security and the Department of Geography at the University of Bonn. Delivered in Bonn, Germany, the two-year, full-time curriculum combines advanced academic study with practical training in environmental risks, climate change, disaster management, human security, vulnerability, resilience, and sustainable development. A limited number of fully funded DAAD EPOS scholarships are available for qualified professionals from eligible developing and emerging countries who have relevant postgraduate work experience.
Eligibility
Applicants must hold a first higher education qualification, such as a bachelor's degree or equivalent, in geography or a closely related and relevant academic discipline. Coursework should generally cover human geography and social sciences, scientific methodology and empirical research, and physical geography, geosciences, and environmental sciences. Candidates must also demonstrate proficiency in English through an accepted language test, unless exempt.
For the DAAD EPOS scholarship, candidates must additionally satisfy several criteria, including:
- Being from an eligible developing or emerging country.
- Graduating within the upper third of their class.
- Accumulating at least two years of relevant professional experience after completing their bachelor's degree.
- Obtaining their most recent academic degree no more than six years before the application deadline.
- Intending to pursue a practitioner-oriented career in development after graduation.
Benefits
Students accepted into the DAAD EPOS scholarship programme may receive:
- A monthly scholarship payment of €992.
- Cover payments toward health, accident, and personal liability insurance.
- A travel allowance, unless covered by another source.
- Potential allowances for rent or accompanying family members, depending on individual circumstances.
The master's programme itself charges no tuition fees, though students must pay standard institutional semester contributions to the University of Bonn and UNU.

The required application package includes a signed online application confirmation, a motivation letter, a Europass curriculum vitae, academic degree certificates, transcripts, proof of English proficiency, a passport copy, and a mandatory separate academic writing sample in English. DAAD EPOS applicants must also include a DAAD checklist, DAAD application form, scholarship motivation letter, current employer reference, and employment certificates.
