Overview

Hosted by the Evans School of Public Policy & Governance at the University of Washington, supported by the Bill & Gates Foundation, and delivered with the Center for Creative Leadership, the International Program in Public Health Leadership (IPPHL) is an eight-month executive development experience. The curriculum focuses on public policy analysis, evidence and evaluation, policy implementation, and personal leadership growth.

Benefits

The fellowship is fully funded by the Gates Foundation, meaning there are no application, tuition, or program fees. Major participation costs covered include:

  • Airfare and lodging during the two-week Leadership Immersion
  • Airfare and lodging during the one-week Capstone Seminar
  • Limited financial assistance for specific additional expenses

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:

  • Be a citizen of an African country, currently residing and working in Africa
  • Hold at least seven years of experience in the health sector
  • Currently work within government or closely with government health systems, with responsibilities in public health policy development or program management
  • Hold a degree related to medicine, public health, or another health-related qualification
  • Demonstrate strong English communication skills
  • Obtain a recommendation from a direct supervisor

The application process requires completing initial screening questions, submitting personal, educational, and employment details, answering short essay questions, attaching a CV, and ensuring a direct supervisor submits a recommendation form.
