Overview
The University of Sheffield AHRC Doctoral Landscape Award (DLA) for 2027/28 entry provides four fully funded PhD studentships for researchers undertaking eligible projects within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, including the School of Law. Supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) as part of the AHRC North/Northwest Hub, the scheme is open to both home and international candidates, though up to one studentship may be awarded to an outstanding international applicant.
Each studentship covers 3.5 years of full-time study (with pro-rata arrangements for part-time candidates) and includes:
- A maintenance stipend at the UKRI rate (currently listed at £21,805 for the 2026/27 academic year).
- Payment of tuition fees at the applicable Home or International rate.
Eligibility
- Open to prospective full-time and part-time doctoral researchers applying to qualifying fields within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (English; History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities; Languages, Arts and Societies; and Law).
- International applicants are welcome to apply, subject to the limitation that up to one of the four annual studentships may be allocated to an overseas candidate.
- The scheme is strictly closed to candidates who are already enrolled on a PhD.
