Overview
The University of Chicago Journalists in Residence Program is an intensive 12-week professional development and learning experience hosted by the Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the State at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Bringing together a small international cohort on the Hyde Park campus, the program enables participants to study alongside faculty and students, audit graduate-level business courses, and participate in weekly seminars.
Designed for journalists covering business, economics, markets, regulation, and political economy, the residency provides an opportunity to step away from daily reporting environments to better understand the economic and political forces shaping companies and markets.

Eligibility
The program is intended for journalists from around the world with a strong interest in political economy, business, markets, or related areas. Eligible candidates should have:
- Several years of professional journalism experience
- Proficient English-language skills
- A demonstrated record of published journalism work
How to Apply

Required application materials include:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) highlighting professional journalism experience
- Personal statements detailing interest in the program and goals
- Two letters of recommendation submitted directly via the separate recommendation portal
- Three published news articles (with English translations if not originally in English, or audio/video links with transcripts for broadcast journalists)
- Proof of English proficiency if non-native (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, or proof of education/experience in an English-speaking environment)
