The University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence “Alexander von Humboldt” offers funding opportunities for international researchers through its Starter Grant Programme 2027 and Short Term Grants Programme 2026. These tracks support academic collaboration, international exchange, and interdisciplinary research projects conducted directly at the University of Bayreuth in Germany.

Benefits

  • Starter Grant Programme 2027: Provides €10,000 for project-related expenses, an additional €250 monthly family allowance for grantees accompanied by at least one child, and access to local office and laboratory facilities provided by a Bayreuth host. Successful recipients may later apply for a €20,000 Booster Grant upon successful project completion.
  • Short Term Grants Programme 2026: Provides up to €3,500 in total eligible costs to cover travel expenses between the home institution and Bayreuth, alongside accommodation costs for research stays lasting approximately one to three weeks.

Eligibility

  • Must hold a completed PhD, including official receipt of the PhD diploma.
  • Must be affiliated with an academic institution outside Germany.
  • Must present an innovative, high-quality research project demonstrating academic excellence.
  • Must identify and secure a local host researcher at the University of Bayreuth prior to submitting an application.
