UNFPA Human Rights Officer Consultant in Accra, Ghana
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is inviting qualified professionals to apply for an Individual Consultant – Human Rights Officer opportunity based in Accra, Ghana. The 9-month consultancy supports UNFPA’s Gender and Human Rights programme efforts.

Overview
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is seeking an experienced professional to serve as an Individual Consultant – Human Rights Officer in its Country Office in Accra, Ghana. The position is designed to strengthen the organization’s work on human rights and gender-related priorities while supporting efforts to reduce gender-based violence and advance the ICPD agenda and SDG 5 targets. The selected consultant will work under the overall supervision of the UNFPA Representative and the direct supervision of the Head of the Gender and Human Rights Programme for a duration of 9 months on a part-time, non-rotational basis.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet specific educational and professional criteria to be considered for this consultancy:
- Education: Candidates may hold an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in law, human rights, international relations, gender studies, or a related discipline, with a professional legal background preferred. Alternatively, applicants may hold a first-level university degree in Law (LLB) plus a Qualifying Certificate in Law (QLC).
- Experience: A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in areas such as sexual and reproductive health, national or international human rights law, international humanitarian law, international criminal law, public-sector programming, or development programmes. Experience in programme or project management within the public or private sector is preferred.
- Language: Fluency in English is required.
