The role supports the organisation's Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery Team (DRT) within the Crisis Bureau, focusing on risk intelligence, anticipation, preparedness, and the application of digital and AI-powered technologies for disaster risk reduction.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet at least one of the following educational criteria at the time of application:
- Enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a Master's degree or higher) in disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, disaster management, or humanitarian affairs.
- Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in a relevant field.
- A recent university graduate who can begin the internship within one year of graduation.
- Enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship programme and undertaking the internship as part of that programme.
Candidates must also demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills in English, alongside research, analytical, organisational, and digital technology competencies. Familiarity with conversational AI tools, collaborative platforms, and a knowledge of another official UN language are considered assets.
Benefits
Where an intern is not financially supported by an external institution, university, government, or scholarship programme, the UNDP provides a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses based on applicable duty-station rates. Interns also accrue combined sick and annual leave at the specified monthly rate.
