Overview
The Umholi we Africa Fellowship Cohort 5 is a fully funded 12-month leadership development opportunity delivered by AL for Governance and Africa Career Networks, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation. It is designed to offer a practical pathway for talented young African professionals to contribute to government, public service, policymaking, and ethical leadership in their home countries.
During the 12-month duration, selected fellows are placed in strategic roles working alongside ministers, members of parliament, and senior public-sector leaders. Participants gain firsthand experience in governance, institutional transformation, national development, and policy execution. Responsibilities may include policy research and analysis, strategic advisory support, project planning and management, report writing, stakeholder engagement, and communications.
Eligibility
- Must be an African national.
- Must be a graduate of either the African Leadership Academy (ALA) or the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
- Must hold at least a university degree.
- Must have a minimum of four years of professional experience.
- Must demonstrate a strong commitment to public service, ethical leadership, governance, and policymaking.
