Overview

The TWAS SISSA Scholarship supports three-month research visits in Italy for young scientists from Least Developed Countries. The programme enables fellows to conduct collaborative research projects or training internships focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Offered by UNESCO-TWAS in collaboration with SISSA and the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, with backing from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, the initiative seeks to build lasting research links and enhance institutional capacities.

Eligibility

  • Must be a national of a Least Developed Country.
  • Must hold an MSc or higher degree.
  • Must be a maximum age of 40 years on December 31 of the application year.
  • Must hold a research position in a Least Developed Country.
  • Must not already be on site in the host country.
  • Projects must align with sustainability science and the SDGs.

How to Apply

Applications must be completed in English and submitted through the online application portal. Candidates must prepare and upload the following supporting documents:

  • Completed application form.
  • Copy of passport personal details page.
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Statement on scientific interests and future research plans in sustainability sciences referencing intended SDG contributions.
  • Full list of publications.
  • Copy of MSc or higher degree certificate.
  • Recent invitation letter from an eligible host laboratory detailing the three-month duration and proposed cooperation.
  • Two signed reference letters from familiar referees.
