Overview

The SIST LMU Scholarship offers short-term financial aid to international students and doctoral researchers at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich) who are affected by a disability, chronic illness, or refugee background. Funded by the DAAD, the program provides awards of up to €900 per month for a maximum duration of four months.

Eligibility

  • Open to international students and doctoral candidates enrolled full-time at LMU.
  • Applicants must be affected by a disability, chronic illness, and/or a refugee background, and reside in Germany.
  • Exchange students, programme students, and preparatory course participants are not eligible.
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need and meet specific monthly income thresholds (full eligibility for earnings up to €695, reduced support for earnings between €695 and €1,345, and ineligibility if earnings exceed €1,345).
  • Must not hold a previous German university degree or Abitur obtained in Germany or at a German school abroad, and must not be entitled to statutory support such as BAföG.

How to Apply

Candidates must prepare a detailed CV, motivation letter, statement of financial need, proof of impairment or refugee background, academic records, current LMU enrolment confirmation, passport, residence permit, German tax number, and bank details. Additionally, applicants must secure two academic references from LMU teaching staff, which must be submitted directly by the referees.
