Migrant Women Press Emerging Women Journalists Fellowship 2026–27: £600 Stipend, Mentoring, Training and Media Placement in Scotland

Overview

The Migrant Women Press Emerging Women Journalists Fellowship 2026–27 is a comprehensive career-development programme designed to help participants bridge the gap between education and professional access to the media industry. Running from October 2026 to April 2027, the initiative supports eight selected Fellows through a structured pathway of skills training, editorial guidance, and practical work experience.

Benefits

  • A total £600 stipend, paid in two £300 instalments across the programme.
  • Professional journalism and trauma-informed reporting training.
  • One-to-one mentoring from an experienced journalist or media professional.
  • Editorial development and publication of an original 1,000-word feature story online and in print.
  • A three-month part-time industry placement with a media organisation, newsroom, or communications team between February and April 2027.
  • Professional networking opportunities and coverage of reasonable travel expenses for in-person placements.
  • A concluding event in Glasgow in April 2027 and induction into the alumni community.

Eligibility

  • Open to women journalists, media practitioners, and communications professionals.
  • Applicants must come from a migrant and/or adversely racialised background (including international students, refugees, people seeking asylum, and first- to third-generation migrants). Trans women are welcome to apply.
  • Must be based in Scotland for the duration of the Fellowship.
  • Candidates should normally be currently studying journalism, media, communications, or a related subject, or have graduated from a relevant programme within the last three years (with alternative consideration for those whose career progression was affected by personal circumstances).
  • Does not require substantial professional experience or major publication credits; selection focuses on potential, curiosity, motivation, and ideas.

How to Apply

Applicants must submit their proposals and information through the official online application form. Candidates are encouraged to prepare a single story pitch connected to Scotland and one example of previous work (which does not need to be professionally published). Accessibility support and alternative application formats are available by contacting the organisers directly.

Deadline

Applications close on Sunday, 13 September 2026, at 11:59 PM. Successful applicants will be informed of the outcome by 28 September 2026.
