Overview
The MEXT IGPAS Scholarship is the International Graduate Program for Advanced Science at Tohoku University, providing a five-year combined master's and doctoral pathway. Lecture courses are fully taught in English, and students are not required to learn Japanese. Participants are affiliated with one of six departments within the Graduate School of Science: Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, Geophysics, Chemistry, and Earth Science.

Eligibility
Master's Program Criteria:
- Those who have completed or will complete 16 years of education by September 30, 2027.
- Those who hold a degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree from a three-year program or have completed 15 years of education with recognized excellent grades.
- Those who will reach 22 years of age by September 30, 2027, and pass an individual qualification examination.
Doctoral Program Criteria:
- Those who have earned or will earn a master's degree by September 30, 2027.
- Those who have engaged in research activities for at least two years after university graduation with recognized equivalent scholastic ability.
- Those who will reach 24 years of age by September 30, 2027, and pass an individual qualification examination.
How to Apply
- Find a Prospective Supervisor: Locate a faculty member whose research matches your interests and obtain their consent before applying.
- Contact the Supervisor: Email the chosen professor directly with your academic background and include "IGPAS 2027" in the subject line.
- Complete the Pre-Application: Register through the official IGPAS Pre-Application Form between October 1 and November 15, 2026 (JST).
- Prepare Application Documents: Gather required paperwork including your application form, statement of purpose, research proposal, CV, and reference letters.
- Submit Online Application: Complete and submit your forms between November 1 and November 30, 2026 (JST).
