Overview
The La Trobe FLEX Scholarship offers customized support for graduate researchers with disabilities who currently hold or have accepted an RTP or LTGRS stipend. Hosted at La Trobe University in Australia, this opportunity provides extensions on candidature, stipends, and leave of absence, alongside a research support allowance designed to help students successfully complete higher degrees by research.
Benefits
- A stipend valued at $36,000 p.a. (2026 full-time) with up to an 18-month extension for doctoral candidates and up to an 8-month extension for research masters candidates.
- A research support allowance of up to $3,000 per annum for disability-related research costs, such as Auslan interpreters or personal attendant care for conferences.
- Candidature extension of up to 12 months (FTE) for doctoral candidates or up to 6 months (FTE) for Masters by research candidates.
- A tuition fee scholarship covering the period of extended candidature.
- An aggregated total of up to 24 months leave of absence, subject to visa conditions and approvals for international candidates.
Eligibility
- Applicants must currently receive a Research Training Program (RTP) stipend, a La Trobe University Graduate Research Scholarship (LTGRS) stipend, or have accepted an offer for one of these stipends.
- Must have a permanent disability attributable to one or more intellectual, cognitive, neurological, sensory, physical, or psychiatric impairments.
- The impairment must result in substantially reduced functional capacity or psychosocial functioning in areas such as communication, social interaction, learning, mobility, self-care, or self-management.
- The disability must have a demonstrable impact on study pace, requiring additional time beyond standard candidature provisions.
