The Koestler Psychologies Scholarship provides funding for rigorous psychological research focusing on underexplored, exceptional, or poorly understood areas of human cognition, behaviour, and experience. Supported by the Koestler endowment at the University of Edinburgh, this on-campus PhD opportunity is managed via the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences to advance scientific investigation into wider Koestler tradition topics.

Eligibility
- Open to both UK and international students applying for their first year of an on-campus PhD in Psychology within the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences.
- Candidates must hold or anticipate a UK 2:1 honours degree (or international equivalent) in Psychology or an aligned discipline, or a 2:1 in another subject paired with a postgraduate master's degree in Psychology.
- Applicants must demonstrate exceptional academic merit and research potential.
- Individuals who already possess a PhD or formal equivalent via direct research training are excluded.
- The award cannot be combined with other fully funded scholarships, though partial funding combinations are permitted on a pro-rata reduction basis.
How to Apply
Candidates must submit an admissions application for the PhD in Psychology programme at the University of Edinburgh.
Additionally, applicants need to prepare a dedicated scholarship statement of maximum 500 words detailing how their intended research aligns with the objectives of the award. The statement should cover the main psychological question, the rationale for studying an underexplored or methodologically challenging topic, and the project's potential contribution to understanding anomalous or exceptional human experiences.
