Killam Fellowships 2027–2028: Receive Up to US$12,000 to Study in Canada or the United States
Applications are open for the Killam Fellowships Program 2027–2028, enabling outstanding undergraduate students from Canada and the United States to study in the neighbouring country for a semester or full academic year.

Overview
The Killam Fellowships Program is a reciprocal undergraduate exchange initiative administered by Fulbright Canada. It gives academically accomplished students from Canada and the United States an opportunity to live and study in the other country. The program supports either a single academic semester or a full academic year, aiming to deepen academic cooperation, intercultural understanding, and long-term relationships.
Benefits
- US$6,000 for a one-semester exchange or US$12,000 for a full academic-year exchange.

- Eligibility to apply competitively for mobility grants up to US$800 for Canadian students or CAD$800 for American students.

Eligibility
Applicants must meet specific criteria depending on their citizenship:
- Canadian Applicants: Must be Canadian citizens, enrolled full-time as undergraduate students in good academic standing at a degree-granting Canadian institution, expect to graduate in spring 2028 or later, meet home-university exchange requirements, and demonstrate English or French proficiency.
- American Applicants: Must be U.S. citizens, enrolled full-time as undergraduate students in good academic standing at an accredited U.S. institution, expect to graduate in spring 2028 or later, meet home-institution exchange requirements, and demonstrate language proficiency.
Professional degrees are normally not eligible, and participants must obtain nomination from their home university if applying via the direct exchange route.
How to Apply
Students may apply through either a direct exchange route or an open competition. Required application documents include proof of citizenship, a curriculum vitae, academic transcripts, a personal statement, course-selection documentation, and two references. Open-competition applicants should submit via the relevant application links, while direct-exchange candidates must follow their home university's internal procedures.
Deadline
The open-competition deadline is 31 January 2027. Students applying through a direct exchange must follow the internal deadline established by their home institution.
