Simon Fraser University invites applications for the 2027–28 Jack and Doris Shadbolt Fellowship in the Humanities, supporting emerging and established scholars, artists, writers, and practitioners.

Overview
The Jack and Doris Shadbolt Fellowship in the Humanities is hosted by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada. The programme provides an intellectual environment for creative practice, critical engagement, public scholarship, and social change. It supports projects that connect intellectual inquiry with creative work and encourages contributions around decolonization, Indigenization, and contemporary societal concerns.
Eligibility
- Open to emerging and established academic scholars, artists, knowledge keepers, practitioners, and writers working in the humanities and arts.
- International applicants may apply if they satisfy the eligibility requirements and manage their own residency or visa needs.
- Indigenous applicants and candidates belonging to underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.
- Current SFU students and individuals holding a continuing appointment at SFU are ineligible.
- Proposed projects should generally be independent of existing degree requirements.

- A completed official 2027–28 Shadbolt Fellowship Application Form.
- A current curriculum vitae (CV).
- A tailored cover letter describing the proposed project, preferred FASS primary unit affiliation, any desired secondary SFU affiliation, and the requested fellowship duration.

Deadline
The application deadline is October 23, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. Shortlisted candidates will be notified in late November, and reference letters for shortlisted applicants are due by December 7, 2026.
