IOC Olympic Studies Centre Research Grant Programme 2027: PhD Students and Early Career Academics Invited to Apply

Overview

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Studies Centre (OSC) Research Grant Programme is designed to support emerging scholars whose academic work investigates Olympism, the Olympic Movement, the Olympic Games, athletes, and the broader social and cultural impact of sport. Established in 1999, the initiative helps researchers advance their scholarly projects and provides eligible participants with opportunities to access specialised collections and historical resources held at the centre in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Eligibility

The programme is international in scope and targeted at researchers working within the human and social sciences. Eligible applicants fall into two primary categories:

  • Current PhD Students: Enrolled in a PhD degree programme within the human or social sciences whose research incorporates Olympism, the Olympic Movement, or the Olympic Games as a core focus.
  • Early-Career Academics and Postdoctoral Fellows: Academic staff members and postdoctoral fellows who completed their doctorate or equivalent highest degree in or after 2024 (or a qualifying master's degree where recognised as the equivalent highest degree in the relevant field).

Benefits

Recipients receive financial support to help complete their scholarly projects. Additionally, grantees gain access to valuable resources such as the Olympic World Library, the IOC Historical Archives, and the specialised physical and digital collections maintained by the Olympic Studies Centre.

How to Apply

Applicants must review the official guidelines and complete the required application documentation. Candidates are encouraged to clearly establish their research's connection to Olympic studies, outline a precise research question, and consult available programme resources before submission.

Complete application files and related correspondence must be submitted directly to the Olympic Studies Centre.

Deadline

The deadline for applications is Tuesday, 22 September 2026.
