The IOC Internship Scholarship 2026 offers short-term, learning-focused internships at UNESCO IOC in multiple duty stations. Applications are open until 31 December 2026.

Overview
The IOC Internship provides short-term opportunities within the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO. Participants support ocean science, observations, data management, capacity development, communications, and partnerships through learning-by-doing assignments lasting from 1 to 6 months.
Benefits
- Interns receive 2.5 days of leave per month, plus an additional working day for each complete month of service.
- Limited workplace insurance coverage is provided against risks of injury, illness, disability, or death directly attributable to the internship.
- Positions are unpaid; UNESCO does not offer financial compensation or remuneration.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be at least 20 years old.
- Candidates must be currently enrolled in the third or final year of a Bachelor's degree, or enrolled in a Master's, PhD, or equivalent second university degree.
- Alternatively, applicants must have completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree no more than 12 months prior to the issuance of the Internship Agreement.
- Technical or vocational students must be in their final year of study or have graduated within the last 12 months.
- An excellent written and spoken command of either English or French is required, with working knowledge of the other language considered an asset.
- Candidates must possess strong computer literacy, teamwork abilities, and interpersonal communication skills.
How to Apply
Candidates must apply to the vacancy notice to join the central pool of intern candidates rather than a specific opening. Successful applicants remain in the talent pool for six months to be assessed and selected by hiring managers.
