IMF Economist Program 2027: Apply and Launch Your Global Economics Career with the International Monetary Fund
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Economist Program is a three-year rotational entry initiative for recent PhD graduates in economics and related fields. Participants work directly on international economic policy challenges, country surveillance, and research based at IMF Headquarters.

Overview
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Economist Program (EP) serves as the institution's flagship entry initiative for PhD economists. Designed for recent graduates and individuals completing their doctoral studies, the program offers an accelerated introduction to the IMF's policy, analytical, and operational work. Rather than acting as a trainee track, participants join the organization as economists and immediately contribute to country work, research, policy development, and capacity building.
Based at IMF Headquarters in Washington, D.C., the three-year rotational structure includes two departmental assignments. Participants gain broad exposure across regional and country-specific surveillance, fiscal and monetary policy, debt sustainability, and related global economic issues.

- Must be under age 34 at the time of entry into the program.
- Must demonstrate strong quantitative and analytical capabilities, excellent research skills, and strong written and spoken English proficiency.
