Overview
The IGP(A) MEXT Scholarship assists international graduate students in obtaining funding to study at Science Tokyo (Institute of Science Tokyo). Funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan, this opportunity supports eligible master's and doctoral candidates applying via the International Graduate Program (A).
Benefits
- Stipend: JPY 147,000 monthly for master's students; JPY 148,000 monthly for doctoral students.
- Education Fees: Enrollment fees and tuition are fully waived by Science Tokyo. Entrance examination fees are reimbursed if the applicant is allocated to Science Tokyo by MEXT.
- Travel Expenses: Air tickets to and from Japan are provided under specific conditions.
Eligibility
- Must demonstrate excellent academic achievement with a GPA of 2.30 out of 3.00 or higher in the last-attended degree program.
- Must hold the nationality of a country maintaining diplomatic relations with Japan; individuals with Japanese nationality at the time of application are generally ineligible.
- Must typically be 34 years of age or younger as of April 1 of the initial scholarship period.
- Must be a graduate of a Japanese university or possess equivalent or superior academic ability.
- Must satisfy English language proficiency requirements, such as a CEFR level B2 equivalent test score or prior instruction entirely in English.
- Must be physically and mentally capable of pursuing studies in Japan and able to arrive within two weeks of the third quarter start date in late September.
- Must newly obtain and travel with a "Student" visa status.
How to Apply
Applicants must follow the application guidelines for the International Graduate Program (A) and submit additional MEXT application materials using separate forms during the application procedures. This includes submitting the Application Form for Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship using the designated tentative format.
