The HKU Presidential PhD Scholarship is offered by the University of Hong Kong (HKU) through the HKU Presidential PhD Scholar Programme. Designed to attract elite researchers globally, the initiative supports outstanding full-time doctoral students with generous financial backing, academic mentorship, teaching training, and individualized advisory services.
Benefits
- Cash award for research and living expenses: HK$40,000 for the first year and HK$20,000 for each remaining year.
- Full composition fee waiver throughout the normative study period, valued at HK$49,500 per year.
- Monthly postgraduate scholarship stipend of HK$28,700.

Eligibility
The scholarship targets the brightest, research-passionate applicants seeking admission into a full-time PhD programme at HKU. All prospective candidates applying for the full-time doctoral track are automatically evaluated for the HKU Presidential PhD Scholar Programme. Due to high competition, main round applicants are also strongly encouraged to apply for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme.
How to Apply
Candidates must submit an application for the full-time PhD programme at HKU to be considered for the scholarship package. Shortlisted individuals may also be invited to participate in an admissions interview.
