Harvard Takemi Program in International Health 2027–2028: Fully Focused Research Fellowship for Mid-Career Global Health Professionals
The Takemi Program at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health offers mid-career global health professionals an academic year in Boston to pursue independent research and leadership development. Applications for the 2027–2028 fellowship year are currently open.

Overview
The Takemi Program in International Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is an interdisciplinary residential fellowship designed to bring a small cohort of mid-career health professionals and scholars to Boston for a full academic year. Running from August 1 through June 30, the program provides participants with dedicated time and an academic environment to focus on an independent research project without a conventional coursework requirement. Fellows participate in weekly seminars, engage with Harvard faculty mentors, present their research progress, audit classes, and build international professional networks.
Eligibility
Applicants must be established mid-career professionals and researchers rather than recent graduates or early-career fellows. Ideal candidates should possess:
- An advanced degree in a relevant field such as public health, medicine, health policy, health economics, nursing, epidemiology, or global health.
- Significant work and research experience in international health or health systems.
- Publications in internationally recognized journals.
- Demonstrated potential for leadership in their home countries.
- Strong English-language proficiency verified via TOEFL, IELTS, or transcripts from an English-language university.
- A pre-existing dataset ready for analysis, as active primary data collection or field surveys are not supported during the fellowship year.
How to Apply
Applicants must submit their materials through the official online application portal. The comprehensive application package requires:
- An eligibility questionnaire and basic personal details.
- Evidence of English proficiency.
- A detailed Statement of Interest outlining professional background, fellowship objectives, and future plans.
- A current Curriculum Vitae (CV) in PDF format.
- A maximum five-page research proposal (excluding title page and references) detailing the problem, significance, data sources, and methodology.
- A complete publication list and an English-language published writing sample.
- Three professional references who will be automatically contacted to submit recommendation letters.
While the program is international and welcomes candidates globally—with a strong longstanding emphasis on low- and middle-income countries—incoming fellows are generally responsible for securing their own financial support, though limited partial assistance may be available.
Deadline
The application deadline for the 2027–2028 fellowship year is December 31, 2026, at midnight EST (USA).
