Overview
The HAB Fellowship is hosted by the Herzog August Bibliothek (HAB) in Wolfenbüttel, Germany, and is funded by the State of Lower Saxony. It provides scholars with intensive access to historical, medieval, and early-modern collections. Two primary formats are available:
- Post-doc Fellowship: Designed for recent postdoctoral researchers.
- Short-term Fellowship: Intended for researchers ranging from post-docs to emeriti scholars.
Benefits
- Post-doc Fellowship: Monthly stipend of €2,200 for 6 to 10 months, travel reimbursement up to €2,000, and family supplements ranging from €300 to €500 depending on the number of children.
- Short-term Fellowship: Monthly stipend of €1,800 for 1 to 3 months, plus a travel subsidy between €150 and €650 based on origin.
Eligibility
- International applicants are welcome to apply globally.
- Projects must require intensive onsite use of HAB's holdings, manuscripts, and rare books across relevant humanities disciplines.
- Post-doc applicants must be within six years of receiving their PhD award.

- Prepare the required documentation, including the application form, a research proposal referencing specific HAB holdings, proof of academic status or PhD award date, a CV, and recommendation letters.
