Overview
The Globe and Mail Foundation Scholarship for a Syrian Media Professional provides an opportunity for a Syrian media worker to receive advanced journalism training, professional mentorship, and international reporting experience through the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana Fellowship in Journalism and Health Impact. The part-time fellowship runs from September 8, 2026, to March 16, 2027, and can be completed entirely online from anywhere in the world.
The programme consists of three main components:
- Two-Week Journalism Bootcamp: September 8–18, 2026.
- Weekly Cohort Sessions: September 22, 2026, to March 16, 2027, for teaching and story meetings.
- Monthly Skills Classes: Held on one Friday/Saturday pair each month from October 2026 through March 2027.

Eligibility
- Must be a media professional from Syria.
- Have a good working knowledge of English.
- Demonstrate an interest in international journalism, reporting, and developing a reporting beat.

- Prepared to develop and pitch original story ideas.

- An English-language CV highlighting media experience.
- A 500-word Letter of Intent in English detailing the proposed reporting beat and career relevance.
- Two story pitches in English for international audiences.
- Up to three optional reporting clips (which may be submitted in Arabic).
