Utrecht University in the Netherlands invites applications for a fully funded four-year PhD position focusing on Global Talent Mobility and Europe’s Strategic Autonomy. Hosted by the Faculty of Geosciences within the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning, the successful candidate will investigate how Europe's competitiveness and technological innovation depend on the international mobility of highly skilled talent, particularly STEM PhD recipients.
Unlike a traditional scholarship, this is a paid PhD employment position where researchers receive a gross monthly salary alongside holiday pay, a year-end bonus, pension arrangements, leave benefits, and professional development opportunities. The appointment is initially for one year and can be extended to a total of four years upon a successful first-year assessment.
Eligibility
- Open to qualified international and domestic applicants from diverse backgrounds with strong academic qualifications.
- Must possess a strong interest in global talent mobility, innovation, human capital, economic geography, and related social science disciplines.
- Required to have quantitative analytical skills, including experience with statistics, data analysis, large-scale datasets, and quantitative research methods.
- Must demonstrate excellent spoken and written English proficiency at approximately C1 level.
- Capable of working independently while contributing to a collaborative and international research environment.
