FOR-GHP Fellowship 2027–2028: Fully Funded Outbreak Readiness Training for Public Health Professionals in Sub-Saharan Africa
The Fellowship in Outbreak Readiness for Global Health Protection invites public health and biomedical professionals from sub-Saharan Africa to apply for a fully funded 1.5-year training programme. This initiative focuses on outbreak preparedness, infectious disease response, leadership, and institutional capacity building.

Overview
The Fellowship in Outbreak Readiness for Global Health Protection (FOR-GHP) is a comprehensive 1.5-year blended learning initiative designed to strengthen the capability of public health professionals and institutions to prepare for, prevent, detect, and respond to disease outbreaks. Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Health through the Global Health Protection Programme, the fellowship utilizes a Training-of-Trainers model. Participants are equipped not only to enhance their own technical skills but also to act as knowledge multipliers within their home countries and institutions.
The curriculum combines online learning, self-study eLearning modules, simulation-based training, and three mandatory in-person workshops hosted in Hamburg, Germany; Accra, Ghana; and Kampala, Uganda. Successful fellows also receive academic credit from the University of Basel upon completion.

Eligibility
- Must originate from and be employed within the sub-Saharan African region.
- Possess a minimum of two years of professional experience in public health or the biomedical sector, preferably related to infectious disease management and control.
- Hold a relevant academic background or demonstrated proficiency in public health, medicine, epidemiology, microbiology, biology, allied health sciences, or related disciplines.
- Provide a formal employer endorsement confirming release from work duties for all three workshops and support for institutional project implementation.
- Submit a letter of recommendation from a current and contactable referee.
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in English through accepted examinations, native speaker status, or prior higher education conducted in English.
- Access to a computer, reliable internet connection, functioning audio, and a microphone to complete virtual training components.
