The flagship Cicero traineeship runs for five months on a full-time basis, while other tracks include study visits for students and researchers lasting one to four months, and dedicated study visits for government officials lasting two to six months.

Eligibility
- Academic Qualifications: For the Cicero traineeship and study visits, candidates must hold a full undergraduate degree or have completed at least the third year of higher education (or half of a relevant Bachelor’s programme for study visits). Government official study visits require applicants to be staff members or trainees of an EU Member State national, regional, or local public authority.
- Language Proficiency: Applicants must be fluent in at least one EU language and possess satisfactory knowledge of English or French.
- Citizenship: Open primarily to EU citizens. Third-country nationals may be selected in exceptional circumstances subject to Belgian immigration and work requirements.
- Exclusions: Candidates who have previously completed more than eight weeks of in-house placement or any form of employment in an EU institution or body are ineligible for the Cicero programme.
