Overview
The Ernst Mach Scholarship is a government-funded Austrian grant offering three distinct tracks: a 36-month full PhD, a 4 to 6-month postdoctoral research grant, and a nine-month music practice award. Financed by Austria’s Federal Ministry of Women, Science and Research and administered by OeAD in cooperation with ASEA-UNINET, the programme provides research and mobility support in Austria.

Eligibility

- Postdoc applicants must be actively involved in teaching and research at an ASEA-UNINET member university in one of the eligible nations.
- Music applicants can be undergraduate or graduate-level candidates.
- Age limits apply: applicants at the undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate level must be 35 or younger, while postdocs can be up to 45.
- Candidates must demonstrate very good English and/or German, with specific B2 or C1 English evidence required for PhD applicants.
How to Apply
Applicants must identify an eligible Austrian ASEA-UNINET member university, secure a suitable doctoral supervisor, and obtain a formal Letter of Consent or Acceptance. Candidates need to prepare a 5 to 10-page research proposal, two academic recommendation letters, B2 or C1 English evidence, a passport, and graduation certificates. Submissions are processed through the Austrian OeAD grants system, and candidates must complete separate university admission procedures where required.
