The Court of Justice of the European Union offers paid traineeship opportunities designed to give young graduates insight into the functions of an EU judicial institution. Placements are available in multiple formats:
- Members' Chambers: Three to five months working with Judges or Advocates General.
- Administrative Services: Five-month placements across various departments such as Human Resources, Budget, Multilingualism, and IT.
- Interpretation Directorate: 10 to 12-week placements for conference interpreting graduates.
Additional pathways include an inclusivity programme for persons with disabilities and a separate exchange programme for national judges organized through the European Judicial Training Network.
Benefits
- Trainees in the general programme receive a monthly grant equivalent to 75% of the minimum social wage for a skilled worker in Luxembourg, roughly amounting to €2,400 per month.
- A one-time travel allowance set at €150 is provided under certain conditions.
- Higher grants and allowances are available under the specific programme for persons with disabilities.
Eligibility
Applicants must satisfy the following criteria:
- Be a national of an EU Member State, with exceptions allowed in duly justified cases.
- Hold a university degree or diploma in any field of study, noting that specific fields like law or political science are required for Members' Chambers.
- Possess thorough knowledge of one official EU language and good knowledge of another, including required proficiency in French or English.
- Have not previously held a post or undertaken a paid or unpaid traineeship lasting more than six weeks in any EU institution or body.
How to Apply
Candidates can submit applications through EU CV Online. Specific application periods correspond to each intake session:
- For traineeships running from 1 March to 31 July, apply between July and September of the preceding year.
- For traineeships running from 1 October to the end of February, apply between February and April of the same year.
- For interpretation traineeships covering the judicial year, apply between July and September of the preceding year.
National judges must apply separately through the EJTN website.
