Overview

The Chevening British Library Coptic Collections Fellowship takes place at the British Library in the UK for a duration of 12 months, running from September 2027 to September 2028. Participants work under the supervision of the Head of Asian and African Studies on a research project, conduct surveys to identify cataloguing gaps, produce blogs and reports, and take part in public engagement activities centered on Coptic heritage.

Eligibility

  • Must be a citizen of Egypt, Sudan, or Palestine, or a citizen of those countries residing in specific ODA-eligible Middle East and North Africa countries
  • Must hold a postgraduate level qualification or possess equivalent professional training or experience in a relevant area
  • Must have a minimum of five years of professional or academic research experience
  • Must be currently employed or enrolled as a PhD candidate (excluding UK, EU, or USA universities)
  • Must possess excellent knowledge of the Coptic language, with Arabic and/or Greek knowledge being desirable
  • Must have good written and spoken English skills
  • Must have experience in cataloguing, handling manuscript collections, provenance research, documentation, and working with heritage communities or public engagement activities
