Overview
The CGIAR++ PhD Scholarship 2026 invites qualified candidates to undertake doctoral research in agricultural sciences and related interdisciplinary fields at a German university. The programme supports 10 PhD candidates for the current call, utilizing a collaborative three-way "tridem" structure that connects the doctoral researcher, a senior CGIAR++ scientist, and a professor affiliated with a German university. Proposed doctoral projects must align with ongoing CGIAR++ research activities and be hosted by a CGIAR++ Center.

- Must hold an MSc degree in Agricultural Sciences or related disciplines such as biology, geography, sociology, veterinary medicine, marine biology, forestry, political sciences, law, or economics.
- Must have achieved an above-average final grade in their master's degree.
- Candidates with non-European degrees must provide a university ranking from the issuing institution.
- Must demonstrate English language proficiency through a TOEFL, IELTS, or other acceptable certificate.
- German nationality is not required; international applicants, partner-country nationals, and female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Benefits
Successful candidates receive the opportunity to pursue doctoral studies in Germany while maintaining an active research connection to a CGIAR++ Center and benefiting from joint international supervision.
