Catalyst Grants 2026: Receive Up to $5,000 to Accelerate Campus Climate Action Projects

Overview

The Catalyst Grants program, organized by Second Nature, aims to provide seed funding to colleges and universities to initiate or expand innovative sustainability projects. The initiative supports efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, build climate resilience, prepare students for green careers, and advance environmental justice. The program emphasizes equity by ensuring that at least one grant is awarded to a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) or Tribal Institution, and at least one is awarded to a Community College.

Benefits

  • Receive up to $5,000 per institution to launch or strengthen climate action projects.
  • Flexible use of funds for emissions reduction, climate resilience, and environmental justice initiatives.
  • National recognition through Second Nature press releases, websites, and social media.
  • Opportunity to present successful projects during the 2027 Summit.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include active or affiliate members of the Climate Leadership Network, campuses participating in the University Climate Change Coalition (UC3), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and Tribal Institutions. Funding priority is given to schools that have historically been underfunded and those with modest financial endowments.

How to Apply

Interested institutions should prepare their proposals, clearly defining the climate challenge, measurable outcomes, alignment with campus sustainability goals, and implementation plans. Applications must be submitted through the online application link.

Deadline

Applications close on September 24, 2026.
