Overview

The Bloomberg Data Science Ph.D. Fellowship supports doctoral candidates conducting advanced research in data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and related technical fields. The initiative connects doctoral researchers with Bloomberg's research community, offering financial backing alongside professional development.

Selected fellows may have the opportunity to renew their grant annually for up to three years, subject to Bloomberg's discretion.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be full-time doctoral students during the 2027–2028 academic year.
  • Candidates must have an expected Ph.D. graduation date in or before the end of 2030.
  • Recipients must maintain full-time student status throughout the duration of the grant.
  • Applicants cannot simultaneously receive support from another industry fellowship, though non-industry funding may be permitted case-by-case.
  • Outside employment is restricted unless explicit permission is granted by Bloomberg.
  • International applicants must possess self-sponsored work authorization (such as F-1 OPT or an EAD) covering the full fellowship or internship period, as Bloomberg will not sponsor U.S. visas for this program.

How to Apply

Applicants must submit their materials online through the designated application portal. The application process requires the following:

  • A current curriculum vitae (CV) detailing academic background and technical accomplishments.
  • A two-page technical research proposal (excluding references) formatted according to Bloomberg's mandatory Overleaf template.
  • A reference letter from a current or proposed advisor, submitted through the platform before the deadline.

Deadline

The application deadline is Friday, September 25, 2026, at 11:59 PM Anywhere on Earth (AoE). Reference letters must also be submitted by this closing time. Successful applicants are expected to be notified by Friday, December 18, 2026.
