The University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence “Alexander von Humboldt” provides funding opportunities for international researchers through its Starter Grant Programme (2027) and Short Term Grant Programme (2026). These grants aim to foster global scholarly networks, promote interdisciplinary research, and support academic exchange across all disciplines.
Eligibility
- Applicants must have completed a PhD (including a diploma).
- Must hold an affiliation with an institution abroad.
- Projects must demonstrate academic excellence, high quality, and strong potential for networking.
- Applicants are required to identify a local host at the University of Bayreuth prior to submission.
Benefits
- Starter Grant Programme: €10,000 to support project costs, plus an additional monthly family allowance of €250 for grantees accompanied by children. Successful completion also opens eligibility for a subsequent Booster Grant of €20,000.
- Short Term Grant Programme: Reimbursement for travel and accommodation expenses up to €3,500 supporting research stays of 1 to 3 weeks.
- Access to Bayreuth’s library, research facilities, office or laboratory space, and integration into the academic network.
