Overview
The Australia-France Indo-Pacific Studies Visiting Fellowship Program (AFIPS) supports eligible early-career social science researchers to undertake a funded research visit in Australia. The initiative forms part of the 2024-2027 Australia-France Indo-Pacific Studies Program, aiming to strengthen academic and policy networks across Australia, France, and the Indo-Pacific region. Successful visiting fellows can spend up to three months based at an Australian host institution, with flexibility to travel for conferences, workshops, and research activities.
Benefits
The maximum total funding provided per visiting fellow is up to AUD 18,900, which covers:
- International travel support: Up to AUD 2,400 for economy-class travel.
- Daily living stipend: Up to AUD 150 per day for 90 days (totaling up to AUD 13,500) for food, accommodation, and related expenses.
- Conference and research activity allowance: Up to AUD 3,000 for workshops, conferences, research training, field trips, and project support costs.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must have completed their PhD within the last five years, with formal conferral by the start of the fellowship visit (career interruptions are taken into account).
- Must be affiliated through nationality or place of work with Indo-Pacific nations (excluding Australia), mainland France, or French overseas territories.
- Must hold a university, equivalent research organisation, cultural organisation, or think tank affiliation with a continuing appointment for the fellowship duration.
- Must be prepared to reside full-time in Australia during the fellowship.
