ANeSA 2026 Research Grants: Up to CAD 1.2 Million for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Projects in Sub-Saharan Africa
The Addressing Neglected Areas of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in sub-Saharan Africa initiative provides implementation research grants of up to CAD 1.2 million for teams in eligible countries.

Overview
The Addressing Neglected Areas of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in sub-Saharan Africa (ANeSA) initiative supports innovative, evidence-informed, and gender-transformative implementation research. Funded by the International Development Research Centre, Global Affairs Canada, and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the program aims to improve interventions for underserved populations and neglected areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights.
The funding process consists of two stages: a Letter of Interest stage followed by a Full Proposal stage for shortlisted applicants. Up to six grants of up to CAD 1.2 million each are expected to be awarded for project durations of up to 36 months.

Eligibility
- The principal applicant must be a researcher based in sub-Saharan Africa affiliated with an eligible institution.
- Eligible countries include Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo (Brazzaville), Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Eswatini, South Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
- Projects must address at least one of five priority areas: family planning and contraceptive services, safe abortion and post-abortion care, adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights, sexual and gender-based violence, or strengthening SRHR advocacy.
