AGNES Intra-Africa Mobility Grants 2026: Up to €3,000 for Doctoral Researchers in Sub-Saharan Africa
Eligible doctoral researchers from sub-Saharan Africa can apply for grants up to €3,000 to undertake a short research stay at a university or research institute in another sub-Saharan African country.

Overview
The AGNES Intra-Africa Mobility Grants for Junior Researchers provide financial support for doctoral candidates to conduct short research stays lasting between one and two months at a host university or research institution in another sub-Saharan African country. Supported by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH), the programme aims to build scientific capacity, foster research collaboration, and strengthen professional networks across Africa.
The call offers two distinct pathways:
- General AGNES Intra-Africa Mobility Grant: Open to both male and female candidates meeting all requirements.
- Special AGNES Intra-Africa Mobility Grant: Specifically designated for female candidates. Female researchers may apply for either the General Grant, the Special Grant, or both, but can receive a maximum of one award.
Benefits
Grants provide comprehensive financial support depending on the duration of the research stay:
- 1 month: Maximum of €2,300
- 1.5 months: Maximum of €2,650
