Overview
The African Union (AU) Peace Fund has opened its Call for Applications for the 2028 Funding Cycle to finance peace, security, conflict prevention, and mediation initiatives across Africa. Established in 1993 and revitalized in 2016, the Fund advances Agenda 2063 goals by offering an indicative total allocation of USD 5 million. Individual projects may receive up to 10% of the annual allocation, with a maximum of two projects per applicant. Preferred project duration is one year, though initiatives may run for up to 36 months.
Eligibility
Applications are open to specific groups meeting AU criteria:
- African Union Member States
- Regional Economic Communities (RECs)
- Regional Mechanisms (RMs)
- The Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS) Department of the African Union Commission
Projects must align with one of three programmatic windows: Mediation and Preventive Diplomacy, Institutional Capacity, or Peace Support Operations.
