2nd Call for Proposals – Community-Led Conservation under ICCA-GSI Phase II 2026: Grants of Up to US$50,000 in Ghana
The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme and UNDP Ghana have opened the 2nd Call for Proposals under ICCA-GSI Phase II to support community-led conservation and sustainable development initiatives.

Overview
The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP), implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Ghana, invites eligible entities to apply for the 2nd Call for Proposals under the Global Support Initiative on Territories and Areas Conserved by Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (ICCA-GSI) Phase II. The 2026 call offers grants of up to US$50,000 to foster local solutions for biodiversity protection, climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, and community governance in Ghana.
This funding opportunity is divided into two separate assignments:
- Catalytic NGO – Monitoring and Evaluation: Focuses on supporting monitoring and evaluation activities based on ICCA-GSI methodologies.
- Community-Based NGOs/CSOs – Regular Project Grants: Focuses on implementing community-led projects aligned with the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).
Eligibility
Applicants must operate in Ghana, satisfy official registration requirements, and align with the geographic and thematic priorities of the programme. Priority geographic areas include communities along the Black Volta Basin, specifically within:
- Upper West Region (Wa-West District)
- Bono Region (Banda District)
- Savannah Region (Bole District, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, and Central Gonja Municipality)
Eligible organizational types include:
- Local non-governmental organizations and non-profit organizations possessing valid Registrar General’s Department and Social Welfare certifications.
- Civil society organizations and community-based organizations.
- Community groups appropriately recognized by relevant authorities.
- Eligible social enterprise organizations recognized by relevant District Assemblies and the Environmental Protection Agency of Ghana.
Benefits
Successful applicants can receive grants of up to US$50,000 to execute innovative initiatives addressing biodiversity loss, ecosystem conservation, climate adaptation, sustainable livelihoods, waste management, and low-carbon energy access.
