2027 MEXT Scholarships at the University of Osaka, Japan | Undergraduate and Graduate Opportunities
The University of Osaka offers MEXT scholarship opportunities for international students at both undergraduate and graduate levels for the 2027 intake. Candidates can apply through either the Embassy Recommendation or University Recommendation routes.

Overview
The University of Osaka (UOsaka) accepts international students who receive scholarships from the Japanese Government through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). For the 2027 intake, MEXT scholarship opportunities are available across undergraduate programmes, master's programmes, and doctoral programmes.
Applicants can pursue the scholarship through two main application routes:
- Embassy Recommendation: Candidates are initially recruited and screened by the Japanese Embassy or Consulate General in their home country.
- University Recommendation: The University of Osaka recommends eligible candidates directly to MEXT, typically through institutional agreements and collaborative research relationships.
Eligibility
At the undergraduate level, applicants may apply via Embassy Recommendation or University Recommendation, where university candidates must first pass an eligible undergraduate programme. At the graduate level, successful scholars generally begin as research students for 6 to 12 months prior to advancing to master's or doctoral studies upon passing relevant entrance examinations.
Benefits
The programme provides international students with financial support from the Japanese Government to pursue undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Osaka.
